BeFlexi working with Rhenus Logistics says its flexitank system successfully passed the Rail Impact Test for the Russian Federation . Bruno Silva , managing director at BeFlexi , said : “ This is an important milestone in BeFlexi ’ s journey . It not only opens up opportunities for the exploration of the Russian export bulk liquid market , which I believe are huge , it also paves the way for certifications in other markets .”

For Rhenus Intermodal Systems , Raf De Schutter , director sales & development , added : “ We are very excited to partner with BeFlexi . By applying our full range of expertise and knowledge of the local market , we enable the company to generate genuine added value when developing this service in Russia and other countries of the CIS .” BeFlexi launched the process of rail certification with extensive market analysis to determine the economic benefits of direct flexitank loadings at refineries across the Russian Federation . The company then undertook a research and development project with flexitank manufacturers to build a product that would withstand the conditions of a safe rail voyage . Global logistics service company Rhenus came on-board the project and arranged for the test to be completed in accordance with the general procedure set up by Russian Rail Commission . BeFlexi ’ s global partner , inspection , verification , testing and certification company SGS , used professionally-trained local teams to prepare the container , install the flexitank and load it with water at a much higher density than that which normal cargoes exported from Russia would have . The safety of the whole system was then tested under extreme conditions that could be experienced during rail transport , including the collision of the 40ft platform with one 20ft flexitank container against other wagons at a speed of up to 15km / hour . The achievement of rail certification marks an important step in simplifying the supply chain for bulk liquids , particularly in the Russian Federation where railroads are a dominant mode of transport . A between UK rail freight provider Freightliner and Trans Ocean was recognised at last year ’ s Global Freight Awards which acknowledge the best of the global freight and logistics industry . Freightliner and Trans Ocean were presented with the coveted Environmental Award for their joint bulk wine recycling initiative . Since 2010 , the two companies have collaborated to facilitate the movement of goods via rail wherever possible . As a result , more than 70 percent of the wine imported by Trans Ocean from countries such as South Africa , Chile , New Zealand , Australia and North and South America is railed inland by Freightliner for delivery to final destinations across the UK , removing around 4.8 million lorry miles from our roads annually . “ The environmental benefits of moving freight by rail are well known , cutting CO2 emissions by 76 percent per tonne , reducing air pollution and easing congestion on busy roads ,” said Freightliner commercial director Joanne Turner . “ This , combined with our joint recycling initiative , puts Freightliner and Trans Ocean at the forefront of environmental innovation .” Trans Ocean , the bulk liquid division of specialist logistics provider to the beverage industry JF

Hillebrand , transports the wine in flexitanks made from fully recyclable polyethylene material inside containers which are transported to all the major bottling plants across the UK every week . The recycling operations at Freightliners ’ Bristol and Garston terminals see 100 percent of the bulk wine flexitanks recycled and 95 percent of the bulkheads which keep the flexitanks in place in the containers , refurbished and reused . Wine residue is also captured , measured and recycled into the agricultural industry . “ We are committed to minimising the environmental impact of our flexitanks at every stage of the product lifecycle – from the design and manufacture , through the transport and then finally to recovery and recycling ,” said Marc Graham , branch manager UK for Trans Ocean .
