Greif is claiming its GCUBE Shield marks a significant enhancement to its range of GCUBE IBCs . GCUBE Shield took two and half years to develop and offers “ revolutionary ” barrier protection compared with fluorinated and six-layer IBCs , with improved product stability , shelf-life and operational performance . A range of benefits is claimed . Food products are now better protected against oxygen permeation into the container , which means the shelf-life of contents is extended . Equally , solvent-based products or agrochemicals are now better protected against gasses lost , retaining their original characteristics to ensure product performance and effectiveness . Developed to be applicable to all of Greif ’ s threelayer machines already producing standard GCUBE IBCs , the innermost layer remains 100 percent high density polyethylene ( HDPE ) which complies with current legislation for food and chemical compatibility . The newly introduced intermediate layer contains the GCUBE Shield blend that reduces the permeation of gases both in and out of the polyethylene , and the external layer allows customisation including colours and antistatic . GCUBE Shield is recyclable as the barrier blend can be reused for further applications . Luca Bettoni , Greif EMEA IBC and plastic product manager , explained : “ We are continuously investing in our GCUBE IBC solutions and the Shield barrier technology is an extremely significant development . We are the first company to introduce the blend of polymers to proactively reduce permeation from IBCs . Ultimately our investment means that customers benefit from a longer product shelf-life ; a reduction in dangerous emissions into the air coming from their product ; and increased protection of their product against oxygen permeation from outside the container .” GCUBE Shield is suitable for a range of markets including flavours and fragrances , paint , agrochemical , speciality chemicals and food and beverages . It is currently produced on sites in Italy and Germany , and will be rolled out to the Netherlands , Russia , China and the US in the near future .
Greif entered the IBC market with the acquisition of Fustiplast in 2010 and in the past eight years has become one the fastest growing companies in IBC production . The firm has nine IBC facilities across EMEA and 13 globally . Further investment in new facilities is planned , including a new plant in Russia opening in 2019 . Among the first of the new investments is a new IBC plant in Ede , Netherlands . Developed in cooperation with Greif ’ s longstanding industrial packaging partner Tholu , the multi-million euro facility has been designed to offer customers the very latest IBC technologies available to the market , with a specific focus on the food industry . Situated adjacent to Tholu ’ s IBC reconditioning site the modern , fully-enclosed facility includes a warehouse and production plant with two IBC lines , and stretches over an area of 90,000 sqm in total . Equipped with clean room blow moulding capabilities the plant complies with the Global Food Safety Initiative ( GFSI ), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point ( HACCP ) and ISO 22000-4 . Bettoni commented : “ We are extremely excited about this new venture which marks another step in our roadmap to become the world ’ s best performing customer service company in industrial packaging . Located in the heart of the Netherlands with excellent transport links means we are ideally placed to serve customers in the Benelux region , and allows us to offer them our full portfolio of GCUBE IBC solutions .” This latest investment follows the opening of Greif ’ s IBC facility in Mendig , Germany .

Conditioner features a laser safety curtain that automatically stops the system ’ s hydraulic rams , scissor lift and turntable if the laser beam is obstructed , eliminating the need for safety-hinged doors and interlock switches for operator safety . The conditioner loosens densely packed bulk solid materials in bulk bags by means of hydraulic rams with specially contoured end plates that press and release opposing sides of the bag . A hydraulically-actuated , variable-height scissor lift with accordion style dust skirt and turntable allows conditioning of the bag on all sides at all heights . The number and pressure of hydraulic ram actuations , the height of the turntable , and number of 90degs rotations are user adjustable . The system controller and hydraulic pump can be mounted on the exterior of the frame or remotely . The new conditioner is intended for bulk bags containing hygroscopic chemicals , certain types of spice blends , heat-sensitive products , and other materials prone to solidifying to the point at which pneumatically-actuated flow promotion

measures 2,210mm H x 3,378mm W x 1,981mm D , accommodates bulk bags of all popular sizes , and requires only an electrical power connection for operation .
