Modular Coordination in Building APPROVED BY PARLIAMENT on 12 July 2012 and gazetted on 15 September of the same year, Act 520 (Amendment 2011): Certification of Standards Compliance for Building Materials, is now set for enforcement with effect from 1 December 2015, following a provisional six-month grace period from 1 June to 20 November 2015. With the broader aim of enhancing the “accountability, integrity and professionalism of the building construction industry in Malaysia’, the three areas of focus are contractors, workers (building personnel) and the public at large. What is at stake here, is that the “structure or function of construction works is compromised by substandard materials/products, whereby they pose a threat to public safety as well as the environment,” said CIDB Senior General Manager (Operations) Megat Kamil Azmi Megat Rus Kamarani during a recent media interview.
