LYSAGHT® 360 SEAM® roofing solution used for state-of-the-art university in Sibu Tasked with materialising the futuristic design of University College of Technology Sarawak, NS BlueScope Lysaght meets the challenge with LYSAGHT® 360 SEAM®. SINCE ITS INCEPTION as an educational institution in September 2013, the University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) has garnered much praise as an environmentally sustainable structure as well as an architecture marvel even before its completion. As the first university in Malaysia to be awarded the Green Building Index (GBI) Platinum Index, UCTS campus is a futuristically designed campus with an intent to reflect the characteristics of the town of Sibu. Seeing that Sibu is known as a ‘forest town’, the architecture of UCTS was carefully constructed to reflect the environmental state of Sarawak itself. Amongst the most striking features of the structure is the entrance of the university with a circular pool of water, designed to pay tribute to the powerful river of Rejang, the cradle of Sibu. As the first university in Malaysia to attain a GBI Platinum status, the inception of UCTS was also properly constructed with considerations to: (i) Cost-effective construction; (ii) Limited energy consumption; (iii) Consideration of user comfort; (iv) Rain water harvesting and water recycling; (v) Reduced volatile particle emissions; (vi) Solar power generation; and, (vii) High thermal performance rating. 38 Building & Investment | www.b-i.biz NS BlueScope Lysaght products utilised on UCTS Working closely with Mr Stephen Ho from Aki Media, NS BlueScope Lysaght Sarawak was tasked to achieve the challenging feat of materialising the architect’s state-of-the-art roofing design.
