ICONS: Malaysian Architects Global Acclaim
Showcase of 28 “stellar” projects by Malaysian architects;
Eco-architect extraordinaire Kenneth Yeang on eco-design.
TAKING CENTRE STAGE at ICONS:
Malaysian Architects Global Acclaim, a
month-long exhibition held at University
Malaya from 1 - 31 December 2015 are
notables of international repute, whose
contributions to the field of architecture
and design have been nothing less than
exemplary, if not outstanding. Organised
by the Department of Architecture, Faculty
of Built Environment, University of Malaya
(FBEUM), in collaboration with Lembaga
Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) and Pertubuhan
Akitek Malaysia (PAM), and in conjunction
with the Construction Industry Development
Board’s (CIDB) 20th anniversary, the
event showcased the achievements of
Malaysian architects whose works have
earned global acclaim and accolades. These
latter includes the ASEAN Energy Award,
UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural
Heritage Conservation, ARCASIA Awards
for Architecture, SIA Architectural Design
Awards and other similar prestigious awards
between 1995 and 2015.

As well as 28 “stellar” projects by
Malaysian architects, the exhibition’s
agenda, along with conservation, sustainable
green buildings and timber structures, also
included a complementary programme of
talks by pillars of the profession in Malaysia
such as Dato’ Dr Ar Ken Yeang of T.R.
Hamzah & Yeang, Ar Hijjas Kasturi of Hijjas
Kasturi Associates Sdn Bhd and Ar Sonny
Chan of CSYA Pte Ltd.
Amongst these icons, eco-architect
extraordinaire, author and more, Dato’ Dr
Ar Ken Yeang, of T.R. Hamzah & Yeang Sdn
Bhd, named by the Guardian, UK as “one of
the 50 people who could save the planet”,
presented on ‘Eco-architecture and Ecomasterplanning: Key ideas that drive our
work’.
