WRITTENBY: SARAHLYNCH BUCKETOZEST Featured stories about the best and brightest Australian lawyers innovatively thinking outside the bucket and striving to make a healthy social or environmental impact. W e caught up with James Ford, from Nexus Law Group, to talk about his pioneering work in the area of green development legal work, its future impact on the legal industry and why more young Australians need to know about it. Tel l us about your background, and how you came t o be int erest ed in sust ainabl e devel opment ? "I have always had a passion for innovative technology and architecture ? and as a result I find myself naturally gravitating towards the global trends in sustainable development, especially Green Buildings. My background is varied (IT, Property Development, Small Business, and Law) across government and industry in Australia and the Asia Pacific region, so there seemed to be a natural fit with an area as diverse as Green Development. Working with an innovative dispersed law firm, like Nexus Law Group, has given me the flexibility and support I need to effectively work in this emerging area. After reading R. Buckminster Fuller?s book, "Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth" I was strongly influenced to support projects that had a focus on sustainability. As I learnt more about 'Bucky', I found he had developed very simple, yet effective architectural solutions that were strong, cheap and could be built very quickly, using simple and light hexagonal structures, like in a bee hive, called 'geodesic domes'." 2 BucketO range / April 2016
