PARANORMAL & SUSPENSE | book reviews | The Five Deaths of Roxanne Love Erin Quinn Paranormal Romance Heat Rating: 4 Roxanne Love’s near-death experiences have put her on the radar of a Reaper determined to uncover the secret of her immortality and cut it at the source. Disguised as a human, the Reaper isn’t prepared for the emotion that comes with the body. Now he finds that the woman he came to kill is the one person he’s willing to die to protect. REVIEW: There is only one word to describe this first book in a new series – amazing! Proving that love knows no bounds, the romance of Santos and Roxanne is beautiful. From the darkness of evil to the revelation of humanity and the power of emotion, their journey to happiness is met with seemingly impossible obstacles. It’s their faith in one another, however, that keeps them alive, together, and thriving. Dark, passionate and moving, this story is more than just a book – it’s a well written emotional adventure that’s well worth taking. | Reviewer: Marie Haney | Darkness Rises Dianne Duvall Paranormal Romance Heat Rating: 3 Krysta is used to getting the drop on vampires. Her “special abilities” aren’t much, but the plan is simple — she plays helpless pretty young thing to lure them in. Then her shoto swords come out and it’s bye-bye, bloodsucker. Until one night she finds herself with an unexpected ally. He’s a vampire, all right, but different. Mysterious. Handsome. And more interested in saving her skin than draining it. Étienne has been an Immortal Guardian for two hundred years — long enough to know that Krysta is special. He can’t stop thinking about her long legs, even more than her short swords. Then he discovers the vamps she’s exterminating have friends in high places, and the Guardians are in danger, too. He’ll have to accept Krysta’s help to save them. The stakes for a mortal are high. But the cost to his heart might be higher . . . REVIEW: This book was absolutely brilliant. I enjoyed it immensely, and I am absolutely chuffed that I got to review it. The story line is about vampires, but like all good books it has a unique twist. However, the twists don’t always work out in some books, but in this case I have to say that it was perfection and it worked wonderfully. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series…as soon as I get the chance. Brilliant!! I love the characters, some more than others but I do adore them. I’m keen to learn more about the other characters they do intrigue me. I’m a massive vampire fan ever since I was 9 and I watched blade so I am hard to please when it comes to this genre, and this book did not disappoint. I really do recommend this to vamp lovers around the world. Enough LOVE! | Reviewer: Nila Bi | January 2014 | 87
