LUNG TRANSPLANT Conversations about the need for a lung transplant began shortly after Adrian moved to Dallas. His well-being was on a roller coaster, and he began to think about his future and the need for a transplant. Finally, his pulmonologist told him that a transplant was his best option. “He told me he wouldn’t have recommended it if he thought I’d still be alive in two years,” says Adrian. “That was a wake-up call.” At 12:30 a.m. on March 11, 2014, Adrian’s phone rang. It was the call he and his family had been waiting for. His transplant was performed later that day. Three days later, the 32-year-old woke up from surgery, glad to be alive and looking forward to a new chapter in his life. Six months after his transplant, he returned to work and soon became the director of therapy for a skilled nursing facility. Today, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 12-year-old step-daughter. When he’s not working, Adrian is at the gym or on the golf course. “Now I don’t have to battle all of the other things that come with CF,” he explains. “I enjoy my family more, and I stay positive and set an example for others who may be facing similar health challenges. 38 He told me he wouldn’t have recommended it if he thought I’d still be alive in two years.
