LUNG TRANSPLANT
Conversations about the need for a lung
transplant began shortly after Adrian moved to
Dallas. His well-being was on a roller coaster, and
he began to think about his future and the need for
a transplant. Finally, his pulmonologist told him
that a transplant was his best option. “He told me
he wouldn’t have recommended it if he thought I’d
still be alive in two years,” says Adrian. “That was a
wake-up call.”
At 12:30 a.m. on March 11, 2014, Adrian’s phone
rang. It was the call he and his family had been
waiting for. His transplant was performed later
that day. Three days later, the 32-year-old woke up
from surgery, glad to be alive and looking forward
to a new chapter in his life. Six months after his
transplant, he returned to work and soon became
the director of therapy for a skilled nursing facility.
Today, he enjoys spending time with his wife
and 12-year-old step-daughter. When he’s not
working, Adrian is at the gym or on the golf course.
“Now I don’t have to battle all of the other things
that come with CF,” he explains. “I enjoy my family
more, and I stay positive and set an example for
others who may be facing similar health challenges.
