The World Classroom
For more than a century, education has been a pillar of the
Baylor Scott & White mission. Usually, that involves teaching
students, residents and fellows in hospitals and clinics across the
system. But one physician teacher took learning about health
care global with Project India.
“This started when a first-year medical student from India
approached the Department of Medical Humanities with a
dream – one that the university was able to support – in his
quest to learn about how to serve the global community in a
meaningful and sustainable way,” says Amina Alikhan, MD, an
internal medicine physician at Baylor Scott & White Medical
Center – College Station, affiliated with the Texas A&M
University College of Medicine.
Of Indian origin and born and raised in Texas, Dr. Alikhan
understands both cultures and the need for this type of
service, as well as the potential impact such an endeavor can
