David Rubin , ASLA , Principal of Land Collective , opened the April Architalx series with a provocative talk about how landscape architecture can not only address social equity issues , but bring people together to foster ideas to solve community and global challenges .
Maine Section BSLA hosted a public viewing of the documentary “ 10 Parks That Changed America ” in coordination with the Maine Public Broadcasting Network .
Maine Section BSLA is also working on increasing educational opportunities for Maine members with two events receiving LA CES : Grounds for Play : Designing & Use of Outdoor Environments to Support Early Childhood Education in collaboration with the Portland Trails Land Trust and the Build Maine Conference in Lewiston , Maine .
A new and much more engaging newsletter format was launched to provide members with important information and calls to action . We also updated the website to include back issues of the newsletter as a resource for members and others who are checking out the website .
Maine Section BSLA launched a new logo , based on the BSLA logo , and a public Facebook page which is geared toward partnering with outside professionals and other organizations focused on design , art , land stewardship and community engagement . 46 Likes and growing !
Maine Section BSLA is coordinating with BSLA and is in the process of partnering with ASLA and USGBC on a Sustainable Sites Initiative workshop . This would be a unique chance to meet the folks administering the newly released SITES rating system and learn about SITES AP accreditation . If you haven ’ t checked out the rating system on www . sustainablesites . org , do it soon . It is the closest third party , nationally accepted rating system providing guidelines and certification for how site development , construction , and management should happen . To repeat a phrase that should get all landscape architects to tune in : “ If we , as a profession , don ’ t embrace SITES , other professions and disciplines will !” Actually they already are . If you are interested in participating in any way and would like direct email updates on the workshop , please contact Lisa Cowan , ASLA @ LCowan @ StudioVerdeUS . com .
