2014 DESIGN AWARDS
The Design Awards Program was cohosted this year by the Western Massachusetts
Chapter of The American Institute of Architects
( WMAIA) and the Boston Society of Landscape
Architects – Western Massachusetts Section.
The competition was open to any building type
or landscape anywhere in the world completed
at any time in the last ten years, by any architect
or landscape architect whose principal office
is currently located in Western Massachusetts
(Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire
counties), or who is a member of WMAIA. The sole
criterion of the program is design excellence.
The jury was comprised of four architectural
professionals from New England: Ward D’Elia,
AIA, Samyn-D’Elia Architects, Ashland NH; Katie
Cassidy Sutherland, AIA, Scully Architects, Keene
NH; Terrence Parker, ASLA, Terra Firma Landscape
Architecture, Portsmouth, NH; and Sheldon
Pennoyer, AIA, Sheldon Pennoyer Architects,
Concord, NH.
The landscape architecture HONOR award
went to Dodson & Flinker Associates for UMASS
Minuteman Crossing | UMASS Amherst. Dodson
assisted the University of Massachusetts in the
development of design and construction documents
for the Minuteman Crossing Plaza at Campus
Pond on the Amherst campus. The work involved
development of a landscape site plan for the area in
the vicinity of the existing Minuteman Statue on
the west side of the Campus Pond.
