In 1996 I relocated my office to
Portsmouth, NH and later changed the
office name to HBLA Inc.
Based on my professional experience
and pioneering efforts, I was invited
to participate in the establishment of
the Chicago Botanic Garden’s flagship
Healthcare Garden Design, Professional
Development Certificate Program. This
program remains the only advanced
professional certificate of its kind in the
country. Utah State University honored
me by asking me to deliver a Keynote
Lecture, “East Meets West: The Art
and Science of Therapeutic Gardens”,
at their 11th Annual Building Healthy
Communities Conference.
Last year I presented my latest work, an
hypothesis to explain how nature might
heal the human condition, titled “Rest,
Restore and Reconnect,” or RRR, as the
closing lecture for the Chicago Botanic
Gardens Design Program. I remain
involved as faculty and program advisor to
this day. Having designed and completed
over 100 projects, I am more committed
than ever to studying and advocating for
the healing, restorative powers of nature
for our elders, those with dementia and
those at the end of life.
