As an emerging professional working at the
National Park Service, I have the opportunity to
work on projects that involve research, writing,
and mapping, and others that deal specifically with
some of the issues I focused on while in grad school.
One major difference from school is that the design
work I do is on a more site-specific and detailed
level. One example is Derby Wharf at Salem
Maritime National Historic Site, which is seeing a
localized rise in sea level on the Salem Harbor. The
wharf is an earthen structure reinforced by thick
stone bulkheads on all sides. It was rehabilitated
