Patagonia Crossing
Patagonia, Chile
Patagonia Crossing engages in the dialogue about
the expansion of hydro-electric infrastructure
in the Aysen Region of Chile. The scope of the
Hydroaysen project is expanded and reconsidered
in terms of its potential as a catalyst for enhanced
wildlife connectivity and monitoring efforts in
Aysen. With the addition of new infrastructure,
including the dams and transmission lines,
connectivity and circulation will be dramatically
altered and habitats significantly impacted.
The project looks at a series of existing networks
as well as the new infrastructure that has been
proposed as part of the HydroAysen project,
including dam walls and transmission corridors,
in terms of new opportunities to stimulate wildlife
connectivity and management and provide new
platforms for monitoring species of the region.
The project aims to improve the interface between
energy infrastructure and habitat connectivity
through a series of strategies ranging from the
regional scale down to the scale of the deer.
