Woodland Residence
St. Davids, Pennsylvania

Sited on the edge of a steeply wooded hillside,
this property is organized by a series of garden
rooms unified by a watery system. A main house,
garage and guest quarters are embedded into the
topography, with the upper terraces consisting of
an auto court, kitchen garden and infinity pool
cascading towards a distant view. Significant stands
of trees were preserved and frame quiet spaces
along a shaded path where the water source begins.
Channeled through a runnel, the water flows
through woodland understory and fern groves, and
dramatically descends through a stone rill into a
water channel to the terraces below. The integration
of water through every landscape space focuses the
experience inward and invites discovery.
