So what is that big spiral doing on the front of the Gardner Museum ? Early in the process of making the Fenway Deity a reality , an application submitted to the Boston Landmarks Commission prompted these comments in the Boston Herald : Hip-hop stars may envy the giant gold chain with a psychedelic spiral-patterned pendant that the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum wants to hang from its faux Venetian front facade . But museum officials say the enormous “ Fenway Deity ” inflatable art installation created by New York landscape architect Ken Smith will protect the Fens from bad spirits . This was good press for the Gardner , where landscape programs strive to engage local and global audiences in garden arts and design . Fenway Deity animates the Fenway façade , one of the most famous views of the Museum , and invites reflection on art in our urban landscape .
