CAMPUS LIFE B Bryn Athyn College launched a new course this spring called Business/Environmental Science 272—Drone Applications in Business and Sci- ence. Instructed by Ethan King (BA ’00) and Eu- gene Potapov, Ph.D., the class met three times per week to learn about applying this new technology in various fields. The schedule was split between classroom discussion and designated drone-fly- ing time on North Campus. The course explores current legislation and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules, cur- rent innovations in drone use, limits of current off-the-shelf technologies, creative problem solv- ing, and business plan development. In its first run, the class was full with 14 students. One student, Brad DePasquale (’20) says, “I’m learning how we can apply drones and AI [ar- tificial intelligence] in order to further progress our intelligence in the business world.” Professor Eugene Potapov explains that flying is just a part of the class. He says, “Flying to produce a sellable commodity is another priority of this course.” Some of the students are already capitaliz- ing on this aspect of the course. Nikita Klinisovs (’19) and Russell Pitcairn (’20) are pairing up on a project that was conceived directly from their ex- perience in this class. Called “Red Door Images,” their nascent company focuses on using drone technology in the real estate industry. Nikita explains that what excited him most It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s…a Drone over North Campus! B RY N AT H Y N A LU M N I M AG A Z I N E | 13
