running CAMPUS header LIFE helping them be successful friends, spouses, professionals – just suc- cessful people all around! It is such an honor to witness the growth.” She added, “What we need to do in this job, especially keeping our mis- sion in mind, is often not easy or smooth, but the good parts of the job make the hard times worth it.” One of the newest additions to the Res Hall staff, College alumnus Shiloh Silverman chose to come back to campus after six years of international experience in Turkey and South Korea. He wanted to of- fer the students “a bridge between the New Church values and those they may experience in other parts of the world.” Shiloh particularly loves the sense of friendship, fun, and community that the residence halls provide. While he cares about the safety of each student, he also encourages healthy playfulness. He said, “One evening, just after my wife and I had finished dinner in our apartment, shouts thun- dered from the freshman hallway of Goodenough Hall – a hallway connected to our apartment’s back door. Alarmed, I rushed to the door, only to find that the residents had organized a spontaneous soccer match in the hallway.” For Shiloh, the moment harkened back to his own positive memories as a student living in Childs Hall a decade ago, and seeing the joy in the students made him smile. He said, “As long as they keep the ball under control, hands off the wall, and shouts to a minimum, I say ‘game on.’” In addition to enjoying getting to know the students and helping them become responsible citizens, residence hall staff members have found themselves maturing as well. As Bri said, “I’ve been challenged to grow on a regular basis due to the wide array of situations we face, and I am especially grateful to be learning from such an incredible and supportive team.”  Late-night cram session Backyard BBQ RESIDENCE LIFE STAFF JENNY LUCAS (AA ’05) ABE JOSEPH BRI KERN (BS ’07) SHILOH SILVERMAN Jenny has served as the director of residence life since 2010, and her areas of interest include campus housing management and student development.
