Weather permitting, activities are held outdoors. We have structured and free exploration in the gymnastics studio. Students are read stories with a corresponding project as well. Recreational Gymnastics Beginner 1 6-12 We open with a fun warm-up and stretch, which teaches the importance of flexibility. We learn basic gymnastics skills on each Olympic event: Vault, Bars, Beam, and Floor. Progressions and lead-ups are the key factors at this level. Beginner 2 6-12 Skills will increase in difficulty, with a continued emphasis on safety. In addition to perfecting Beginner 1 skills, we also work on new skills on each apparatus with emphasis on proper form and technique. Gymnasts may stay in the Beginner 2 level until they are mentally and physically ready to move up. Advanced Beginner 6-12 We continue to build on the foundation of the skills mastered in Beginner 1 and 2 with skills becoming progressively harder. Progressions and lead-ups are still key in advanced beginner classes as most skills build from one-another. We emphasize proper form and technique. Prerequisites include Beginner 2, and approval or evaluation by the Gymnastics Coordinator. Intermediate 6-13 Continues to build on the skills learned in previous classes. With basic gymnastics skills accomplished, this class is geared towards higher level gymnasts who prefer not to be on a competitive team. Strength and conditioning are incorporated into every practice. Prerequisites include Advanced Beginner, and approval or evaluation by the Gymnastics Coordinator Tumbling 8-13 Encompasses all aspects of tumbling and introduces students to proper technique and progression of tumbling skills. Work on skills needed for cheerleading, or learn to tumble rather than engage in all aspects of gymnastics. Strength and conditioning are incorporated into every practice.
