Exceptional People
Shrewsbury’s success is founded on attracting and developing the potential
in all people. Selectivity will remain a core value of the institution, allied to the
further refinement of the development of those exceptional young people.
Critical thought is at the heart of leading university education throughout the
world, and Shrewsbury will continue to develop ways of preparing students
for life beyond our school. The experiences of our wonderful alumni drive
us to further develop Reading the World to ensure critical thought is deeply
embedded in our students and a love of writing strongly developed. Growth
of the Extended Project Qualification will also offer research opportunities
and further support the development of written analyses. Our bespoke Ready
to Learn programme will continue to mature and grow to support all with key
skills for adulthood.
Shrewsbury will explore Positive Education, based on the work of eminent
psychologists as a way to build resilience in all and offer the opportunity
to flourish in all environments. Equipping young people with the skills to
navigate adolescence is the moral obligation of all schools and Shrewsbury
will do this through the adoption of positive psychology. There will also be
a further development of our support structures for students throughout the
year groups.
Great teaching is at the heart of our proud academic record. Shrewsbury will
be an employer of choice and a leading voice in and teaching and learning
in the coming years. We will establish the Shrewsbury Institute of Teaching,
Learning and Leadership as a framework to develop all that is good in this
domain through research based methods. This will consider the development
and support of staff on their journey from application to Shrewsbury to career
fulfillment. Along the way we will use research based methods to ensure
professional and personal growth in staff that will clearly also benefit our
students in their learning.
