Ice Skating Programs Gymnastics Class Name Age Description Pre-school and Pre-K Recreational Classes (Must be age required when the session begins.) Itsy Bitsy Tumblers Parent/Tot 1½-2 Beginner toddlers develop large motor skills, receive an intro to gym and equipment, and develop spatial awareness. Tumble Tots Parent/Tot 2-3 Beginner toddlers develop large motor skills and basic gymnastics skills using equipment in an obstacle course format. Little Pros 3-4 An independent learning opportunity for young gymnasts to build self-confidence, strength, coordination, balance and flexibility. Focuses on enhancing basic body movement, tumbling skills, and using equipment. Children must be potty trained. 4-5 A more advanced and independent preschool class. The goal is to build a strong foundation for gymnastics and skill comprehension. 5-6 Specifically for gymnasts who attend full time or part time kindergarten during the day. Gymnasts are improving skills previously learned, practicing new skills, and gaining confidence along the way. The focus is on independent movement, muscle control and body awareness, and improving on basic gymnastics skills. 4-6 Friday afternoon enrichment program. Weather permitting the activities are held outdoors! Students bring a (peanut free) lunch to enjoy with their friends! Structured and free exploration in the gymnastics studio. Students are read stories with a corresponding art project as well! Superstars Kindergym Gymnastics Club (not yet in kindergarten) (MUST be in kindergarten) Gymnastics Gemstones | Recreational Program Ruby 6-12 For gymnasts who have never had formal gymnastics training before. Girls learn basic gymnastics body positions, skills, and build coordination and strength. Emerald 6-12 Advanced beginner girls improve on beginner level skills and learn more advanced skills. Body positioning, coordination, strength and form are necessities for Emerald classes. Prerequisites: Ruby level class or evaluation by an instructor. Pearl 8-12 Intermediate level gymnasts learn new and challenging skills. Skills learned in Pearl level class will follow USA Gymnastics standards to prepare gymnasts for a more formal and in-depth side of gymnastics. Prerequisites: Emerald level class and instructor evaluation and permission. Diamond 8-12 Advanced recreational gymnasts in this class are expected to have completed all previous classes within the recreational program. Skills will require the most strength and flexibility thus far. Skills will follow USA gymnastics standards. Prerequisites: Pearl level classes and instructor evaluation and permission. Recreational Team | Stepping stone from recreational gymnastics toward higher level or competitive gymnastics. Members of our Rec Pre-Team and Rec House Team must come two days per week. Recreational Team classes are on recommendation of the Gymnastics Coordinator or by evaluation of a Team Coach. Rec Jr. Team 6-7 For girls serious about pursuing gymnastics as a sport at a young age. Skills will meet USA Gymnastics standards. Gymnasts must be evaluated by a team coach before signing up for Rec Jr. Team. Rec Pre-Team 8-11 For older girls who are serious about pursuing gymnastics as a sport and have at least three years of higher level classes. Skills will meet USA Gymnastics standards. Gymnasts must be evaluated by a team coach before signing up for Rec Pre-Team. Rec House Team 9-13 Gymnasts get a feel for competitive gymnastics and the skills and routines that go along with it. Middle schoolers who have completed advanced level classes and at least pre-team gymnastics may use this as an intro to high school gymnastics. Gymnasts must be evaluated by a team level coach before signing up. Spring 2018 • Park District of Highland Park 31 GYMNASTICS Competitive Gymnastics Team starting in Fall 2018.
