SOCIAL MEDIA DO’S AND DON’TS Why Utilize Social Media Social media is a powerful free marketing tool for businesses. When used strategically, it provides an opportunity for the public to learn about and interact with your brand, while also keeping current members of the community informed and in-the-loop. Additionally, in today’s digital age, it’s becoming increasingly important to have a professional, established and branded presence online. Personal vs. Professional Accounts • Keep personal accounts private. — Use these accounts for your friends, family and other personal associations. • Use professional accounts to manage salon pages. — Use a business email to set up professional social media accounts. — Connect with guests through the salon’s main social media channels. • Select a name that reflects you as a stylist or your salon. Examples: @PMSalonSue, @TampaPMSalon • Always ensure that you are logged out of the professional account if using a personal device. This prevents accidentally posting something personal to the professional account. Customer Service and How to Handle Negative Comments • Always respond to questions or comments in a timely fashion. — Try to respond to everything within 48 hours; 24 when possible. — For negative comments, take the conversation offline by being polite, acknowledging the person is upset and providing a public email address the person can use to reach you or someone else in your salon.
