Brochure Winter 2019 - Page 5

Dear Friends: A Midwest Winter is what our friends and family in warmer climates may dream of around the holidays. Here in Glenview, a crisp, white snowfall over bare trees and dormant grass can create quite a picturesque scene. This winter, we invite you to bundle up and enjoy nature in its beauty. Outdoor rinks at Flick, Johns and Roosevelt parks allow ice skaters and hockey players to pass the time doing something they love. Sledding hills at Flick Park and Johns Park are sure to elicit some giggles and woo-hoos from visitors. All sled hills and ice rinks are lighted for evening activities and close nightly at 10 pm. Some of our winter events include: • Escape the holiday hustle and join Historic Wagner Farm and the Glenview Park Golf Club for a fun evening of wreath making and wine tasting at The Café from 7-9 pm, November 29. • Kick off Illinois' 200th birthday celebration with a party at The Grove on Dec. 2. Monthly activities highlighting Illinois will continue in early 2019. • Get ready to ring in 2019 with New Year's events for all ages: celebrate Noon Year's Eve at Park Center, join the East Wing for a festive luncheon or skate into the new year at the Winter Carnival at the Glenview Ice Center. The Glenview Park District wants to again thank voters for approving a referendum this past spring that allows for improvements to the Ice Center and The Grove for generations to come. Planning is well underway. For more information, see page 7 of this brochure or head to our website for the most up-to-date details, where you will find a highlight on the home page. This fall, the Glenview Park District was recognized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts for outstanding commitment Dave Dillon President david.dillon@ Angie Katsamakis Vice President angie.katsamakis@ to the arts. The Helen Doria Arts in the Park Award recognizes agencies (park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation, and special recreation agencies) that support the arts and partner with artists and arts organizations to enhance the quality of life in their communities. Highlights from our award included: • Glenview Park Foundation's partnership with local artist Elisa Boughner to install a new sculpture in the Flick Park Arboretum. • Wagner Farm's Dairy Breakfast Poster Contest engaging local artists to create the design of marketing materials for the event. • The district's many healthy partnerships with arts organizations such as Glenview Art Guild, Glenview Theatre Guild, Glenview Children's Theatre and the Glenview Concert Band. As we move into the months of December, January, February and March, we would be remiss not to extend our congratulations to The Grove for a successful 33-year run of the Arts & Craft Faire. Craft Faire became a tradition for many families offering one-of-a- kind, handmade treasures and holiday decorations for sale. Saying a final farewell is bittersweet, but the team at The Grove is excited to explore new possibilities for winter events. The last days of the event are November 1-4 and November 8-11. On behalf of the board, it is an honor and a pleasure to serve the Glenview Park District. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season. See you in the Parks, David M.
