Dance DANCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS ACRO DANCE • Petite Dance • Beginning Dance This new style of dance combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, unique choreography, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. Acro seamlessly blends ballet, jazz and hip hop with acrobatics and gymnastics. BALLET STAR (PRE-BALLET) • Petite Dance The next step for children who have completed sessions of Creative Movement classes, Pre-Ballet is designed to con- tinue the principles taught in Creative Movement class while increasing time spent on basic ballet technique. BALLET/HIP HOP • Petite Dance This class combines the technique of a Ballet Star class with the energy of Hip Hop Kidz! Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality and basic footwork, as well as ballet basics and terminology. BALLET/JAZZ • Beginning Dance This class combines the grace and technique of ballet with the fun and energy of jazz. Pink ballet and tan jazz shoes are required. BALLET/TAP • Petite Dance • Beginning Dance Students learn the basic principles of ballet and the fun and lively moves of tap. Ballet and tap shoes are required. BROADWAY BABIES • Petite Dance A wonderful introduction for our budding stars to learn sing- ing, dancing and acting. Pink ballet and black tap shoes are required. CONTEMPORARY/MODERN DANCE Beginning Dance Contemporary dance combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and body though breath, fluid dance movements and modern tech- niques. Some dance experience recommended. CREATIVE MOVEMENT • Petite Dance Utilizing both classical and contemporary music, instructors encourage students to use their imaginations while learning basic principles of body and spatial awareness, alignment, rhythm and an overall feel for music. DANCE WITH ME (PARENT & CHILD) • Petite Dance Young children are introduced to dance and exercise with the safety and comfort of having a parent or primary caregiver in the room with them, either participating with them or some- times just observing. Dance with Me is lots of fun for both of you and is great way to prepare your child to participate in the next level of dance classes on their own. FLEXIBILITY & CONDITIONING CLASS FOR DANCERS • Beginning Dance Intermediate Dance • Advanced Dance This class is for dancers and cheerleaders who would like to become stronger and more flexible in their preferred disci- pline. We will combine cardio, endurance and weight training in a dance atmosphere and build skills along the way! 34 HIP HOP • Petite Dance • Beginning Dance Intermediate Dance • Advanced Dance Children have fun dancing to age appropriate, contemporary music. Class focuses on rhythm and fast movements. JAZZ/LYRICAL • Intermediate Dance Dancers continue to practice jazz and lyrical techniques while exploring choreography that combines both genres. Tan jazz shoes are required. LEAPS, TURNS AND IMPROV Beginning Dance • Intermediate Dance • Advanced Dance This technique-based class is for the dancer looking to add on to their current dance class and build upon their leap and turn ba- sics. Dancers will work to improve the overall appearance of their choreographed leaps, turns and jumps, while getting a chance to explore movement through creating their own choreography. POMS • Beginning Dance Learn special poms techniques and personal projection as we combine Jazz, Hip Hop and basic cheer moves into synchro- nized routines. Each class begins with structured warm-ups designed to strengthen core muscles and get you ready to dance. Previous dance experience required. PRE-POINTE BALLET Intermediate Dance • Advanced Dance Core body strength, arms (port de bras) and correct turn out based on a student’s anatomy and muscular development are emphasized at the barre. Center work is focused on the basics of adagio (slow controlled combination), preparation for pirouettes, simple turns across the floor, petit allégro and grand allégro. TUMBLING • Petite Dance (Tumble Tots) Beginning Dance (Superstar Tumbling) Sign up for this fun class to improve upon your tumbling skills and overall cheer coordination. Taught by head cheer coach, Nabi Jordan-Polk. TWINKLE STAR CHEER • Petite Dance S-P-I-R-I-T, Spirit! Come learn to cheer, jump and dance in this introductory cheerleading class. Classes are set in an upbeat, positive environment designed to teach students the fundamen- tals of cheerleading technique, including motion, flexibility and some basic tumbling drills. DANCE CLASS ATTIRE • Creative Movement, Ballet Star, Ballet/Jazz –Leotard (any color), tights with skirts or shorts and pink leather ballet shoes • Jazz – Dance pants or shorts and tops, slip on tan jazz shoes • Hip Hop, Poms Dance – Comfortable clothes, tennis shoes or tan jazz shoes • Boy’s Attire – Comfortable pants or shorts, T-shirt, jazz or ballet shoes or bare feet • Ballet/Tap, Broadway Babies – Leotard, tights, pink bal- let shoes, black tap shoes • Pre-Pointe – Any color leotard, pink tights, pink canvas or leather ballet slippers, ballet skirt or dance shorts, hair in a bun glenviewparks.org ▪ Youth Dance
