Dear Neighbors, As most of you are aware, the referendum on the Ice Center, The Grove and open space passed with 65% voting to approve. For those who voted against the referendum, the park board and staff are committed to earning your support over time with the cost effective and successful implementation, and management of the referendum projects. On behalf of all the Board of Park Commissioners and staff, thank you for taking time to help share the future of the Glenview Park District. The end result will be safer and more energy- efficient facilities that provide greater access for persons with disabilities and seniors. As the park district moves forward with planning and construction, we will publicly disclose all spending from the voter-approved bond issue on the district’s website. Summer officially begins on June 21, but here in Glenview, we’ll get a jump start on outdoor fun as preseason hours get underway May 26 at Roosevelt Pool. The regular season for both Roosevelt and Flick Park pools begins June 9. Take advantage of Early Bird rates and save up to 15% on pool passes purchased through May 17. Passes this year include a complimentary BogaFit class demo and four summer pool events. Along with swimming, the park district offers more than 150 special events and family activities from June-August. Check out all we have to offer at glenviewparks.org. Children in grades 3-9 can learn something new through our Summer Enrichment programs in partnership with Glenview School District 34. Classes such as Board Game Geeking, Math Madness or Screenwriting offer a fun way to keep young minds active over the summer months. Beginning May 1, spend a relaxing day on the lake in a kayak or paddle boat. The tranquil settings of Gallery Park are a great way to get connected with nature. Our seniors are invited to venture onto Lake Michigan in July. A bus will take a group from The East Wing to Navy Pier for a fun day on a Spirit Cruise. Other East Wing summer highlights include the annual Spring Luncheon in June and an all member birthday luncheon at the end of July. Our effort with the village to protect the environment through storm water management, that began in 2014, is about to reach completion. Phase three of the project focuses on storm water management at Historic Wagner Farm and in the adjacent Glen Oak Acres subdivision. Completing the project this spring will allow for time to reseed the pasture at the farm and move forward with all the fun activities that the Farm has to offer. Summertime is all about fun. Spend time with the ones you love. Embark on new adventures. Grow with a class or two at the park district and cool off with a relaxing day at one of our pools.
