100 days of Trump - Tripping Down

the White House Steps

By Barclay

“3 Doors Down” performed at President Trump’s inauguration. Donald may have been thinking there were actually 300 doors UP, but that’s an alternative thought tangent. Fitting though that a song written and performed by the band (the one with just the 3 doors), titled: HERE WITHOUT YOU, has several layers of meaning having just past 100 days of Trump. At first glance, it was clairvoyant that they wrote such poignant lyrics about Trump’s first 100 days, it’s sad that as he moves towards 200 days, the WITHOUT YOU may take on significantly newer meanings.

We know the President likes how he looks in the mirror, so as the song opens, the words fit like fake news: A HUNDRED DAYS HAVE MADE ME OLDER, SINCE THE LAST TIME I SAW YOUR PRETTY FACE. The next lines go to all (none) of his accomplishments as he starts on the fiery road, baking his legacy into the history books we may not be around to read: A THOUSAND LIES HAVE MADE ME OLDER, AND I DON’T THINK I CAN LOOK AT THIS THE SAME. We also know he travels weekly on our dime to Florida where he can’t help but enjoy himself while so diligently trying to help the American people he controls: ALL THE MILES THAT SEPARATE DISAPPEAR NOW WHEN I’M DREAMING OF YOUR (no my) FACE. I’M HERE WITHOUT YOU BABY BUT YOU’RE STILL ON MY LONELY MIND. Further into the song, the message goes to the President’s disillusion on the job he ground his way into: THE MILES JUST KEEP ROLLIN, AS THE PEOPLE LEAVE THEIR WAY TO SAY HELLO. I’VE HEARD THIS LIFE IS OVERRATED, BUT I HOPE THAT IT GETS BETER AS WE GO. The poor man isn’t always getting his way, but the people of the country and in many cases the world are the ones looking at the rougher outcome.

The trouble brewing within the United States right now is very divisive and slowly the citizens are becoming treated like the children of a spatting/feuding/angry/hateful married couple. We are being used by both the Republicans and Democrats alike as pawns in a disastrous game in Washington that may have a name like WHO’S SIDE ARE YOU ON? An example involves the failure of the republicans on their first try to pass a healthcare bill that had more leaks in it than Trump’s staff. Upon realization of it being doomed, the party took the stance of letting it fail and blame the democrats anyway. RESULT: AMERICANS LOSE. Upon the revamped healthcare bill, one which was reported that a significant number of republicans didn’t even read before signing, the democratic party took the stance of singing HEY HEY NA NA GOODBYE… rejoicing that the people would vote them out for passing such a weak plan hurting coverage for so many. RESULT: AMERICANS LOSE.

The country is now seeing and hearing a Washington that has seemingly lost all concept of why they are there, and gone all-in to the game of backstabbing, spite enhanced blind hatred for the “OTHER” side of the aisle. In the meantime, as HERE WITHOUT YOU or us, plays out, Washington has continued to alienate our allies, neighbors, and pointedly provoked everyone else. Perhaps the slogan for Trump’s candidacy and more clearly now should be: MAKE AMERICA BITTER AGAIN. Of course, between the EPA rollbacks which will help the soon to be underinsured choke and die sooner, the removal of education for the children to understand how to survive, the walls built around the country, meant to keep others out, but having an effect of keeping the lowly voters of the USA in, and the arsenal one by one being pointed at us, we may not even have time to be bitter.
