Dragon Knights - Part IV

By SAM ABBOTT

The “One” took great care in the early years of the Onigmas' life. They built an addition to the Great Hall to house the youngster. Young women were brought into the home to care for him and their memory of the journey was erased. The “One” altered their sight so they would see them as normal height humans and enabled them to understand their language. The main Hall was shrouded to protect it from them entering it. The home was furnished with a nursery, rooms for the nannies, a kitchen, indoor garden, and a learning facility. The “One” provided fresh provisions and other supplies from all over the world. There was nothing that wasn't available to the Onigmas and his staff. As a need arose it was provided, nothing was denied.

By the time Onigmas reached 2 years old, he was not only speaking English, but the native tongue of the “One.” He was starting to show signs that he could speak to the “One with his mind as well. It was time for him to begin learning the ways of the “One.” Ten of the 100 librarians were selected to become Onigmas teachers in the classroom. The runes were transcribed into a master book for them to teach from. Only two copies of this book were made, and they were imbued to cloak the text when the lessons were completed. When he was 5 he had mastered the usage of the runes and was beginning to modify them into spells to create different effects. Using the spell of shrouding he cloaked his room from the “One's” ability to see inside nor read his mind. Keeping all his own accomplishment to himself. His first spell he created a companion, someone, or rather something, other than the “One” and the nannies to talk to. In this time there were no magical creatures other than the “One,” and they were more humanoid than creature. Onigmas took an iguana, a parrot, and the embers from a fire and created the very first dragon. Although it was only 2 feet tall and 4 feet long, it still had the ability to breathe fire and speak to Onigmas. He placed and invisibility cloak over him so that only he could see him and to keep it hidden from the others and muted his voice so that only he could hear. He named his new friend Navarock. Little did he know he had created the genesis of the mystical realm of creatures? The very next day his teacher asked him if there was something new he would like to share. Onigmas knew that there was no keeping secrets from the “One”, so he explained how he combined the powers of the runes and other objects he could create magical objects and creatures. He eluded to tell of Navarock's existence. His teacher was very excited about this new ability, but was very insistent that his new abilities be monitored very closely and document in a Book of Spells, which would be kept in the Great Hall of Knowledge. Although he was not happy with this decision, Onigmas knew that he had no choice in the matter and would have to keep a separate spell book hidden well in his room. The “One” were contemplating the same ideas about Onigmas' powers. They began deriving their own spells to fill a spell book of their own. These spells would become a part of Onigmas' training over the course of time. The Scholars of the Great Hall of Knowledge worked endlessly to conjure many volumes of spells, which they kept hidden from Onigmas until it was time they were to become a part of his lessons. In the meantime Onigmas was doing the exact same, but he was actually completing the spells, then miniaturizing his creations and immobilizing them.
