1886 …is the birth year of the first ‘modern’ car; hooray and congratulations! And who else than the Germans invented the first ‘Motorwagen’ called Benz Patent. Yes this was the very first Mercedes. 1908 The American made cars accessible for the masses with the Ford Model T. You can drive a T-Ford yourself in the attraction ‘Oude Tuffer’ in the Dutch theme-park the Efteling (definitely worth visiting!). Hairstyles became looser and fuller with ‘volume’ as key, running through the decade 1900-1910. Both long and short styles became popular again. 191 1 Although not the first cars to be used in rally’s, the first sports cars were invented in the year 191 1. Both the Prince Henry and the Austro-Daimler sports car model were designed by Porsche (Go Germany!). In the mid 1910’s the “bob” became incredibly popular. For the less outstanding women there was a hairdo called “curtain hair”; you can imagine the look of that yourself. Words by Veerle de Boer, Looks by Constantijn Pennekamp 7 5
