“The City is
Our Gallery”
By Raya Chicheva
Chances are that you’ve seen at least one of the many painted walls of Breda,
even if don’t walk around the city that much. What you might not know, is that
there is a group of people that are working hard to collect these beautiful mu-
rals in a virtual gallery. We’re talking about the project “Blind Walls Gallery”.
Moreover, these are the people behind the Graphic design festival that happens
every two years, here, in Breda- “Graphic matters”. We had the great opportunity
to talk to their initiator of “Blind Walls gallery” Dennis Elbers and their marketing
and communication manager Niek Nellen.

First, there was the festival, created in 2008, engaging in different meaningful topics.
It’s being displayed for a month and then it’s gone. This year’s edition was called
‘Shut up, speak up’ and it was focused on the ability of graphic designers to use their
skills and what they do best to approach important topics. A big exposition was done
by artists from all over the world about the Iraq war, or recent topics like Trump. The
main idea behind it was to question if people can still trust the media when issues are
complex and international.
