“There is a rebel, lying deep in my soul.” – Clint Eastwood
We, as millennials, are often described as a rebellious generation.
Nowadays, it’s more common to see young people going against the
common flow of things, than ever before. We have more and more
different channels for communication and expression and, moreover, we
no longer trust in the system nor the politicians that run it. Since the
New Romantic Movement in the early 80s, the rebel persona flourishes
daily.
We can all assume that musicians, artists, writers, actors, designers,
and in general, people from the artistic sphere can be considered as
the strongest example of rebellious spirit. Carrying characteristics of
free-spirit all while opposing the society, these personas keep making
footprints.

Madonna is perceived as scandalous by many, especially in her time of
up and coming fame. She had been criticized a lot, but Madonna is a
leader of the Feminism movement. With last year’s release of her short
movie, dedicated to International Women’s day, she states: “Welcome
to the revolution of love, to our refusal as women to accept this new
age of tyranny.”
Marilyn Manson is a star that not only shocks with his name (a
combination of Marilyn Monroe and the mass murder Charles Manson),
but also with his appearance and the fact that he presents himself as
“Antichrist Superstar”. The message that he wants to spread is that
“irresponsible finger-pointing does not create more discrimination
against kids who look different.”
