Brevard Zoo Conservation Report 2016 - Page 5

The Zoo realizes that every plant and animal species we share our home with is worth protecting because each contributes to the health of the ecosystems we depend upon. We strive to lead our community by adopting sustainable policies and procedures in our day-to-day operations—benefiting the Zoo and the community ecologically. Throughout this report, you'll see how we remain heavily involved in local conservation programs by facilitating and supporting efforts to protect sea turtles, Florida scrub-jays, mangroves and oysters, just to name a few. Your Zoo is also a part of a much larger picture. As an accredited institution, we are one of 230 taking part in the new AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) initiative, SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction). Together we spend $350 million a year on wildlife conservation programs around the world.
