Connecting Science aims to make that research open and accessible , enabling everyone to explore genomic science and its impact on research , health and society .
A key element of this work is delivered by Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Courses and Scientific Conferences , which funds , develops and delivers training and conferences that span basic research , cutting-edge biomedicine , and the application of genomics in healthcare . Their conference programme attracts internationally-renowned speakers and brings over 3,500 scientists , healthcare professionals , and commercial sector delegates to Campus from around the world every year .
Many of their events have a strong translational element , connecting pharmaceutical and clinical researchers with their academic counterparts , to foster collaborations and facilitate the practical applications of genomic science in healthcare . A highlight of this year ’ s programme will be the Translational Bioinformatics conference taking place at the Wellcome Genome Campus Conference Centre , which will bring together researchers and computational biologists in academia and industry to discuss shared interests across epidemiology , cancer genomics , and precision medicine .
Events are hosted at the Wellcome Genome Campus Conference Centre , another key element of Connecting Science , which has purpose-built meeting spaces , a 300-seat auditorium , and
extensive on-site accommodation . The conference centre is open for bookings by external clients and regularly hosts conferences for large biomedical organisations . Connecting Science also arranges visits for public groups , hosting more than 4,000 visitors each year including school groups , patient initiatives and community groups .
Accelerating drug development
Dr Jeffrey Barrett explains ; “ Open Targets is an open innovation partnership between academic and industry scientists who work together to increase the success rate of new drug development . Using genome-scale analyses , we aim to assess therapeutic targets to determine how
