ADVERTORIAL
ELRIG drug discovery 2017
Keynote talks from Dr Mene Pangalos from AstraZeneca, and
Dr Nessa Carey from PraxisUnico and Imperial College London
Following two hugely successful
meetings so far in 2017, the European
Laboratory Research and Innovation
Group (ELRIG) return to ACC in
Liverpool for our major event of the
year, Drug Discovery 2017. Now in it's
11th year, this is the largest scientific
conference of its type in the UK, and
we expect over 1000 delegates, who
attend free of charge.
The scientific programme will consist
of six scientific tracks over two days.
‘Advances In Imaging’ will describe new
technologies such as single molecule
imaging that allow the study of the
mechanism of drug action at individual
proteins, through to technologies that
allow imaging of drug action in the whole
animal. ‘Drug Discovery In The Fourth
Dimension’ will explore new methods to
study the kinetics of drug action and the
relevance to clinical outcome. ‘From
Molecule To Man: Right Dose, Right
Time’ will focus on the in-silco and
experimental advances that better enable
dose prediction and patient selection.
Other themes that will be covered
include: Innovations In Chemistry,
Innovations In Assay Design,
Steve Rees
ELRIG Chairman
VP Reagents and Assay
Development, IMED Biotech Unit,
AstraZeneca, Milton Science
Park, Cambridge
Development & Screening, and Target
Identification & Validation.
We are delighted to have two world
renowned scientists as our plenary
keynote speakers. Dr Mene Pangalos,
Executive Vice-President of the IMED
Biotech Unit at AstraZeneca will share
his view on the current and future
challenges for drug discovery. Dr
Pangalos is accountable for delivering
small molecule and novel modality
research programs into Phase 2b clinical
development. Alongside his work at
AstraZeneca, Dr Pangalos sits on many
workgroups shaping the future research
environment in the UK. Our second
keynote speaker is Dr Nessa Carey. Dr
Carey is international director of the
technology transfer organisation
PraxisUnico and a visiting professor at
Imperial College London. She is a
renowned expert in epigenetics with her
first book ‘The Epigenetics Revolution:
how modern biology is rewriting our
understanding of genetics, disease and
inheritance’ being acclaimed by both the
scientific and non-scientific readers.
The scientific tracks will be
complemented by a poster session, a series
of workshops by organisations including
BPS, SiLA and SLAS, networking
opportunities and an extensive vendor
exhibition featuring over 100 companies.
We also have our Innovation Zone, which
showcases recently formed businesses with
new technologies. Delegate, poster and
exhibitor registration for Drug Discovery
2017 is now open and can be managed via
the ELRIG website: elrig.org ■
