Join UKSPA members at their
next key event, 5-6 October in
Sci-Tech Daresbury
T
he next UKSPA Conference is
hosted by Sci-Tech Daresbury
in October 2017 at its campus
near Warrington in Cheshire.
UKSPA events provide an
opportunity for UKSPA members to join
others from the science, innovation,
and incubation sector to look at current
issues, discuss trends and initiatives,
share good practice, and network, as
well as tour the facilities on site.
THE HOSTS
Established in 2006, Sci-Tech Daresbury
is a National Science and Innovation
Campus ideally located in Cheshire
between Runcorn and Warrington,
Manchester Airport, and Liverpool.
Managed by a joint venture involving
the Science and Technology Facilities
Council (STFC), Halton Borough
Council, and commercial property
company Langtree, it is home to the

internationally-recognised STFC
Daresbury Laboratory, as well as
seven university partners who have
activities on site.
Over 100 technology companies
are located on the site, covering the
biomedical/healthcare, advanced
engineering/materials, and ICT sectors,
from start-up companies to corporates
such as IBM and Atos.
Sci-Tech Daresbury recently picked up
the 2017 UKSPA award for setting the
pace in innovation, and for supporting
the growth of knowledge-based firms.
In addition it was also highly commended
in the Best Project award for last year’s
phenomenally successful Open Week,
which attracted more than 7500
members of the public.
Study tours are planned as part of
the programme to introduce visitors to
the Hartree Centre, Campus Technology
Hub, and Virtual Engineering Centre.
KEYNOTE
The two-day UKSPA conference will
include a keynote presentation from
Sherry Coutu CBE, Chair of the Scale Up
Institute and author of the influential
Scale-up report on UK economic growth –
see scaleupreport.org for more info.
Sherry is a serial entrepreneur and
angel investor who serves on the boards
of companies, charities and universities.
She chairs Founders4Schools and is
a non-executive member of Cambridge
University (Finance Board), Cambridge
Assessment, Cambridge University Press,
and a NED of Zoopla and the London
Stock Exchange Group.
Philanthropically, she supports the
Prince’s Trust and the Crick Institute,
and serves on the Harvard Business
School European Advisory Council. She
was appointed Commander of the Order
of the British Empire (CBE) for services
to entrepreneurship in the New Year’s
Honours List 2013.
