General agreement was that the role of the STP is to guide start-ups through the entire growth journey, from concept to market introduction, offering access to funding, key services and technologies, including marketing and prototyping. Joseph Pique, from La Salle Technova Barcelona, Spain, noted that a critical value-add that STPs might incorporate into long-term strategy is encouraging entrepreneurial companies to ‘envision the future into the present’, starting early with an exit plan, while encouraging them to link into large external corporate visions where they themselves can add value by using under-used or idle assets.
