MOIRA LUMLEY * Groups still in operation in 2015 by Moira Lumley with Joan Doane Moira has acted, directed, produced and served in almost all areas of community theatre in Brampton for over 50 years! A founding member and past president of both Bramalea Little Theatre and Peel Panto Players, she has served in many (if not all!) positions on their executive as well. Moira was on the steering committee of the Performing Arts Council and served as president for the first two years (1978/79), conducting all business from her kitchen table. The Performing Arts Council eventually became the Brampton Arts Council! At the time of its inception, there were 17 member groups under the umbrella of the Performing Arts Council. It is interesting to see that a number of groups are still operating today, 37 years later. She was the local chairperson when Bramalea Little Theatre hosted the ACT-CO Festival at Lester B. Pearson Theatre and she also produced “Amadeus” which not only won the Best Production Award but was chosen to represent ACT-CO at the Theatre Ontario Festival in Oshawa that year. Over the years, Moira has been presented with a number of distinguished awards including the President’s Award for her work with the BLT in 1990, and was chosen as Brampton Arts Council Arts Person of the year in 1991. In 2013, the Brampton Music Theatre presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary Gala. At 86, Moira is still active, and works behind the scenes on props for both the Brampton Music Theatre and Peel Panto Players. Thank you for all you’ve contributed to the arts in Brampton, Moira! Moira Lumley named Arts Person of the Year 1991 Brampton Guardian 6 Receiving a lifetime award in 1990 for being the only founding member stil with the group after 25 years.
