Notes from the Editor Condolences Schmoozefest V Review The FOLD SPOTLIGHT | KELLY McNEIL Everywhere Wildlife Artist Kelly McNeil goes, she takes time to visit zoos, wildlife reserves and refuges, and National Parks. “I drag my family around with me while I sketch the lazy animals, and photograph the active ones”. To McNeil, a painting has to capture the drama and personality of the subject and she has learned so much about the natural world since studying wildlife. She has discovered an abundance of previously unnoticed wildlife right in her own backyard in Brampton, including Blue Herons, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Red Tailed Hawks, Blue Herons, owls and deer. On her parents’ property in Cape Breton she has observed Bald Eagles, King Fishers, Loons, Osprey, seals, herons, bobcats, coyotes and whales. This is a great resource for her to refer to as she creates her detailed and life-like paintings in both small and large scale. Kelly works with oils to achieve the vibrant and distinctive colours in her work. (Kelly McNeil / continued on page 4)
