my blackness is fiercely protecting and loving my culture
it’s the feeling I get when I spend time with people who look just like me with the
differences only slightly separating us
my family is my home
it’s the peeling walls
it’s the arguments at family gatherings
it’s the inside jokes shared between phone calls and sly looks
my mind is a maze
it is darkly lit
the sun comes up and it is screaming
the sun goes down and I am in waking
