my blackness is fiercely protecting and loving my culture

it’s the feeling I get when I spend time with people who look just like me with the

differences only slightly separating us

my family is my home

it’s the peeling walls

it’s the arguments at family gatherings

it’s the inside jokes shared between phone calls and sly looks

my mind is a maze

it is darkly lit

the sun comes up and it is screaming

the sun goes down and I am in waking
