ILLUSTRATOR’S TIME MACHINE A short conversation with Sensei Dobrosav Bob Zivkovic If you live in Belgrade, or anywhere in Serbia, you have probably at least once encounter the illustrations of Bob Zivkovic. Today, you can follow his work online, in books, and even in the public transport. M y first encounter with his illustration was in the book “To burst out laughing” which I got as a present from my grandma in the late 98’. My young mind connected that with a colouring book, so I didn’t pay that much attention to the reading itself. Honestly, it was even a little bit morbid, those animals and gap-toothed people with strange looks, but still I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. Apart from the Dylan Dog and Blackrock comics, the illustrations of Bob Zivkovic pulled me into this interesting and never boring profession, but what interests me and I believe you too, what drew him to the pencil-driven expression, so I hope that we will find that out from this short conversation. Em, are you there Mr Bob? Of course, here I am in the time machine, eating dodos, exterminating dinosaurs and starting my sentences with “…in my time…” and “today’s kids…”. 26 | www.bulevarumetnosti.rs Come in, take a seat… How is life treating you? I don’t complain, I won the competition for the biggest prostate in my class. And you? Me? Very good, thanks for asking… So shall we begin? Do I have a choice?
