Although all UWCs have a very intensive CAS and Service program, every school has an activity that stands out.

In UWC Mahindra, they have fire CAS, during which students go to beat down fires to preserve the biodiversity of the reserve. This puts a particular focus on the biodiversity surrounding the school.

However, in UWC Changshu, the school focuses on connecting with the local community. As a result, they have organized SAWA, a QC during which they go to a local elementary school to teach students art workshops. With the drawings made, they make merchandise such as cups, and T-shirts which they then sell to be able to buy more art supplies for other Chinese elementary school students.

In the USA, a CAS particularly appreciated by students is the entrepreneurship CAS. During this, students create a project of their own and then travel around the US to pitch the project to some of the most famous companies in the World.

One thing that seems to unite all UWCs as one is weird fashion styles. UWC Changshu reports a craze of Dashikis, brought on campus by their Nigerian co-year. UWC Mahindra has fully adopted their natural environment and the local Indian culture by adopting hippy clothes and Indian Kurtas. PJs seems to be on the order of the day in UWC USA and Changshu.

Every UWC puts it’s own emphasis on a certain area particular to their region and local culture. Mahindra focuses on the biodiversity surrounding the school, Changshu focuses on outreach to their local community, Robert Bosch puts a particular emphasis on sustainability, while Adriatic focuses especially on their local community and their outdoor surrounding. All UWC schools are unique and yet united by the same mission. Hopefully we can learn from each other to strive ore successfully for our common goals.
