BOSSY: Okay so that’s where Kazmaleje comes in, right. Tell me about that.

LaToya: My sisters and I started Kazmaleje in 2016. For us it’s about creating innovative accessories and tools for textured hair. It’s not based on ethnicity or culture, its about providing solutions to people having problems managing, detangling and styling their textured hair. Right now the way the market it set up, you have tons of hair care products. You have the Miss Jessie’s or Mixed Chicks and so many more. But we don’t really have the same when it comes to tools and accessories.

" Instead of thinking something’s wrong with my hair or I’m not doing something right, let’s look at the tool as see how we can make the tool work better for us."

I went natural in 2008 and the marketplace was completely different. One of the challenges we experienced was always the detangling process, especially if you have tighter coils or kinky hair. You experience so much shedding and potential breakage, and we thought instead of thinking something’s wrong with my hair or I’m not doing something right, let’s look at the tool as see how we can make the tool work better for us. Instead of feeling that maybe I need to change my hair to work better with what’s already in the marketplace.
