What Titi and I discovered when we realized that curly hair was a group or club that women with a tighter coiled hair could join was that this information was too important to keep the secret to ourselves. So what we did was share information. And it was the unthinkable in an industry that was built on keeping trade secrets. We saw how helpful it was to help women get more acquainted with their hair. That was an early experience and touch point where Titi understood that sometimes giving away that information was more important than making money.

We sat down and looked at our business and realized that we were in fact influencers. We were immersed in our business and we were pretty successful in the hair care industry. And it was actually Titi who said I think it’s time we write a book and tell our story. She said women listen to us and a lot of women important decisions about their hair which in turn may have encouraged them to love themselves more. She said “I think we have another duty, we need let people know how we built our business” I knew she was right.
