Name: Milligram AKA The Caucasian Kendrick AKA Young Sudafed AKA my mom’s favorite son

City of birth/current city: Columbus, OH

How long have you been into music and what was your attraction?

That’s like asking how long you’ve been into breathing (laughs). I’ve always loved music. As far as making it, it started back in the day just free styling with friends. Eventually enough people told me to start recording so that’s what I did an just worked my way up from shitty home basement studios with an engineer more interested in selling weed than recording to an actual studio. That’s not in a basement that is (laughs)

What other talents do you have?

Pleasing the ladies.

Tell us about some recent events/projects:

I dropped my latest project, “The Death & Life of Milligram” in January on livemixtapes.com which was my first full length project. 19 tracks including skits, all original production, features an all that. DJ Hylyte hosted it and we dropped the intro video “Welcome” last month. The tapes basically an autobiography. What it was like, what happened, and what it’s like today. It goes from me being all fucked up on drugs, running the streets, living that life to putting all that behind me, graduating from Ohio State and pursuing music. Real inspirational shit ya know? There’s also an entire song about my testicles (laughs). But no really there is; That ones for the ladies (laughs)

What do you like most about music and creating it?

I feel like music is one of the few things that can instantly touch your soul. Like no matter how you’re feeling or what you’re doing that certain song can just make you feel better, get you “turnt” as the kids say, or bring up an old memory. There’s nothing else like it. Except maybe Chiplote; I fucking love Chipolte

What is your short term music goal?

Short term goal is to release another mixtape this year which I’m about half way done with. There’s a few artists I’d like to do a joint EP or mixtape with so that’s definitely a possibility as well. I’ve also been booking a lot more shows so if you can afford to fly me out and your city has moderately attractive to very attractive women holler at me (laughs).

What is your long term music goal?

The ultimate goal is to be able to support myself with my music. Soon as I do that I’m flipping over desks and stealing all the office supplies I can on my way out an never going back!

Who is your favorite artist/producers past or present?

I listen to everything from Big Pun and the Jackson 5 to NOFX and Mac Dre. If you saw my ITunes you’d think 15 different people were downloading shit on it. Lately I’ve been listening to Kevin Gates, Yelawolf, and Logic along with a lotta old school punk and reggae. Some of my favorite producers are Dr. Dre, Sap, the Alchemist, and J Cole is a beast at production but doesn’t get the credit he deserves for it. Shit, was I supposed to say Future an Metro Boomin?

What type of adversity have you had to overcome in your endeavors?

Well I’ve overcome a slight oxycontin/heroin addiction and had to learn how to walk again after I shattered both my femurs in a car crash at 18 so really any adversity with music isn’t that bad. It can be frustrating as fuck at times but it’s worth it.

Thus far what is a stand out moment of your career?

For a good stand out moment I’d say the release of The Death & Life of Milligram. Just to put that much time, energy, money, and effort into a vision and see it materialize is dope. As far as a bad one the video shoot for “Do You” in Miami. I was performing on the beach an the drone got lost in the clouds; There were people all over the place videoing and snapchatting me like “look at this fuckin maniac” (laughs) it was a good time.

How do you stand out among other artists?

Well when it comes to rap being white really helps me stand out (laughs). But nah I think what makes me stand out is the authenticity and honesty in my music. There’s no filter. Also, sometimes I’m funny. A lotta rappers are way too concerned with being hard and gangster all the time an it’s like no one is gangster 24/7…. Except maybe Trick Daddy or Boosie (laughs)

Tell us a fact about you:

I sometimes confuse Ben Affleck with Matt Damon. I know they look nothing alike and it makes no sense but I do. I musta asked 10 people if they thought Matt Damon would make a good Batman in the past month. I also make some fire French toast.
