Bosch Stemele assists in
accelerating School
Infrastructure delivery in
rural Eastern Cape
Bosch Stemele East London Regional office was engaged
as engineering consultants on the multi-level school
reform initiative focused specifically on improving learners’
performance by turning rural schools into centres of
excellence. The value add of this in the Eastern Cape,
renowned for substantial shortfalls in school infrastructure,
aligns with one of the top priority National goals.
Under Construction: Lends to great excitement as local labour receive
skills transfer and much needed employment.
The scope of Bosch Stemele services includes multidisciplinary engineering assessment of schools’ infrastructure
in the rural Eastern Cape. The ultimate objective is to provide
sustainable infrastructure that includes the provision of safe
drinking water, sanitation, structures, as well as mechanical and
electrical services.
The vast rural terrain and in some instances, co-ordinates not
being available, means that finding the sites can be difficult! It
was cost effective for the team to use helicopters to access
some of the more remote sites and meet the tight project
deadlines.

assess over 43 schools over 3 days to meet the tight project deadlines.
Before: Exceptionally poor ergonomic conditions depicted to which many learners are confined.
After: “A picture paints a thousand words” Learners show great excitement in their newly constructed school. The intent to rectify and eradicate all mud
structures remains a priority and project completion in its entirety is anticipated during 2015
