Bosch Munitech and EWS Ensure Environmental Protection
As part of its appointment by eThekwini
Water and Sanitation (EWS) for the
mechanical and electrical maintenance
of wastewater infrastructure in the
western area of the municipality, Bosch
Munitech was recently called upon
to replace a Motor Control Centre
(MCC) panel at the Umhlatuzana Inlet
Wastewater Pump Station.
Bosch Munitech was tasked with
building a temporary Motor Control
Panel and with operating one pump
on the existing diesel set to ensure that
the incoming sewage flow to the pump
station was directed to the Wastewater
Treatment Works during the MCC
installation process. The key challenge
of the assignment was to undertake the
work on a live system whilst protecting
the environment by ensuring that no
sewage spill occurred.

the Motor Control Panels.
The installation work was conducted
over a continuous 40 hour period,
requiring the utmost diligence and
stamina from the implementation team
comprising: Manager, Pierre Bigara;
Foreman, Neville Crowley; George
Louis; Siyanda Khumalo; Lucky Majozi;
Sthembiso Mkhize and Nkululeko Jaca.
JP Marnewecke was responsible for
operating and maintaining the diesel
generator during the process.
EWS’ Engineer, Andrew Peinke, praised
the efforts of the Bosch Munitech
team stating, “A scintillating effort…
your assiduous efforts massaging
the gen-set through the temporary
panel installation ensuring that not
one drop of sewage was spilled, was
sublime. A new benchmark has been
established that augers well for all future
projects constrained by environmental
imperatives”.
