Karl Bremer Administration
Building
Bosch Stemele, was appointed by the Western Cape
Department of Public Works for the mechanical engineering
services with regard to the development of the new
4 500 m2 Karl Bremer Administration Building that serves as
the centralised regional administration hub for the Western
Cape Department of Health.
The project was allocated a budget of approximately
R120m with the building consisting of three portions namely: a
six story main block, a three story secondary block and a 150
seated auditorium.
The Bosch Stemele appointment included the design of all
ventilation systems, lifts, fire safety systems and wet services.
Specialised designs were undertaken in association with two
other international consultants, ensuring that a world class
engineering solution was delivered to the client.
The building was designed in line with Green Building
Guidelines resulting in a Green Star rating of 5 as accredited by
the Green Building Council. The project also received its GSSA
Socio-Economic Design PILOT certification, indicating the first
inclusion of socio-economic aspects as part of the rating tool
for Green Star Accreditation. This was the first time this rating
aspect was included and awarded to a project in South Africa.
The project is currently in construction with the planned
completion towards the end of 2016.
