managers for new Oman sugar refinery
Oman Sugar Refinery signing ceremony.
The Oman Sugar Refinery Company LLC (OSRC) has reached
agreement with the Sohar Port Authority to establish a
sugar refinery at the port of Sohar. Bosch Projects and Tate
and Lyle Process Technology have been appointed as the
project’s Technology and Project Management partners.
The new sugar refinery will be a world class, state-of-theart, modern facility and will use the latest proven production
technology to produce high quality refined sugar. The refinery
will have a capacity of one million tonnes of refined sugar per
annum and will be designed and constructed by OSRC in
conjunction with Bosch Projects and Tate and Lyle.
This will be the first sugar refinery to be established in the
Sultanate of Oman and will create employment for Omani
citizens, diversify the country’s economy and produce many
downstream opportunities and above all, enhance food
security.
The refinery will take advantage of the excellent facilities
provided by the strategically located port of Sohar, which
include a deepwater port, adjacent container terminal and
agro-bulk terminal.
The official signing ceremony took place at The Grand Hyatt
Hotel in Muscat on Sunday 14th April 2013.

Bosch Holdings lands milestone JV appointment
with Eskom
After a mammoth effort in the last quarter of 2011, Bosch
Holdings, in a joint venture with Thabo Consulting, Thabile
Consulting and Nemai Consulting, has been appointed to
Eskom’s Engineering House - Panel B, Generalised Services.
This initiative’s objective is to enable Eskom’s in-house teams
to obtain expert engineering, project management, project
development and specialised services in a streamlined
process on an “as and when required” basis.
Certain requirements must be met by the appointed Panel B
companies. This means that the consortium’s joint capabilities
have been assessed by Eskom and are deemed acceptable to
provide the necessary services.
These services are required in areas such as: Coal Fired
Technology, Hydro and Pumped Storage Technology, Open
or Combined Cycle Gas Turbines Technology, Heat Recovery
Steam Generator Power Technology and Marine Engineering,
amongst others.
Approved Panel Service Providers will be invited to bid for
specific “task orders” issued by Eskom at various intervals
and the underlying objective of this initiative is to provide an
environment that will result in smaller engineering companies
being “upskilled” in the process (through the Joint Ventures)
while, at the same time, assisting Eskom with the backlog of
work in their power stations.
