14 CESA commendation for landmark Ubombo Project Left to Right: Roelof van Tonder – BEPEC, Guy Perrins – Strategic Business Development Director, William Yeo – MD Bosch Projects, Andrew Cruickshank – GM Projects, Naren Bhojaram – President of CESA. Bosch Projects is the proud recipient of a commendation in the CESA AON Engineering Excellence Awards 2012 for Best International Project. This award was granted for the Ubombo 410 to 500tch Factory Expansion in Swaziland. Bosch Projects was appointed as the EPCM consultant for the project in November 2009. The R1.5billion brown-field mill expansion would boost the factory’s sugar production, resulting in a 20% increase in cane milling capacity. The Ubombo Project, one of the largest projects undertaken to date by Bosch Projects, included a number of “firsts” for the team and the client, Illovo Sugar. An extremely large and complex project like Ubombo required a visionary, multifaceted approach to tackle the technical, logistical and construction features inherent in the venture. Part of what makes the project so remarkable is that it was undertaken in a foreign country, with equipment and manpower sourced from across the globe. Another ground-breaking feature was the successful installation and commissioning of the first African Chainless Diffuser and the first southern African sugar mill generating surplus power and exporting into a national grid designed, managed and executed by Bosch Projects. The project was completed on time, allowing a significant budget saving. [email protected]
