This project forms part of the Urgent Water Supply and Sanitation Rehabilitation Project Phase 2 . The consortium comprising of lead partner Vitens Evides International ( VEI ), and including Bosch Stemele and SNV Zimbabwe , were appointed by Crown Agents ( UK ) in April 2016 , to provide professional consultancy services required for this project .
The main focus of the project is to develop programmes to enable the City of Harare to operate and maintain a non-revenue water reduction ( NRW ) programme , to improve operation of the water treatment works and to provide the necessary institutional capacity development to ensure the ongoing successful implementation of these programmes .
VEI have provided management and technical assistance for the development of the Non-Revenue Management Programme and Institutional Capacity Development for the Harare Water Department ( HWD ). Bosch Stemele provided technical assistance for the development of the GIS platform of the Harare water network layout , rezoning of the water distribution network and development of a hydraulic model of the present and future rezoned and upgraded network . The hydraulic network model is essentially a tool for the planning ,
operation and management of the water supply network by HWD .
An additional deliverable of the project was to develop an Investment Plan for the town of Redcliff , located some 150km from Harare along the main road to Bulawayo . The Investment Plan identifies infrastructure rehabilitation measures and interventions to stabilise and improve water supply and sewerage services in Redcliff in the short , medium and long terms .
The project , which is being undertaken by a team of experts from Vitens , Bosch and SNV , commenced in May 2016 and is estimated to be completed by November 2017 .
