At the time of the Dawson Block being built ( 1963 ) the 1928 Nurses ’ Home became the Accounts / Purchasing / Payroll / Secretarial area and also provided the Board Room until the Godfrey Santon Block was completed in 1974 . This Nurses ’ Home then became the School of Nursing and the Works Department and , until its demolition in 2011 , was being used as accommodation for the Library , Human Resources , Purchasing and Transport staff .
Second Nurses ’ Home including a dining room , built 1941
As early as March 1936 , the Board Minutes record that ‘ within the next five years the Board will be faced with the prospect of further enlarging the Main Building , Nurse ’ s Home and Domestic Staff Quarters .’ By the start of the next decade , the list of buildings to be considered had shrunk to only two – the Women ’ s Ward and the new Nurses ’ Home . The second Nurses ’ Home included accommodation , a kitchen and a dining room for the nursing staff . It was constructed immediately south of the earlier Home and linked to it . The Nurses ’ Home was extended in 1949 and a new wing was built in 1954 . The kitchen and dining facilities were situated at the southern end of the building and from here a further link was established with the third Nurses ’ Home when it was built in 1957 . In 2011 the building was being jointly used by staff from Regional Community Services ( including District Nursing , Kupenga Hao i Te Ora - Support Net and Toi Te Ora – Public Health ) and Mai i Ngā Kuri a Whārei ki Tihirau – Regional Māori Health Services .
